This medieval tower was built in the 15th century on the spot where Seneca is said to have lived in exile. Seneca spent eight years here (A.D. 41-49), exiled by the Emperor Claudius, because the empress Messallina had accused him of adultery with Julia Livilla, Caligula’s sister. He had a great view, by the way…
